Small Giants was founded in 2007 to create, support, nurture and empower businesses that are shifting us to a more socially equitable and environmentally sustainable world. Some people call this type of business social enterprise. We just think it makes sense. Small Giants acts as a catalyst for change, using business as a meaningful tool to create the world we want to live in. From deep partnerships with start-up social enterprises, to investments in large-scale social and environmental projects, to radically sustainable property development, the Small Giants portfolio reflects a deeply passionate and innovative ethos.
In mid-2012, Small Giants became Australia’s first B-Corporation. Certified B Corporations are a new type of corporation which use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. There are over 500 Certified B Corporations across 60 different industries. B Corporations are a diverse community with one unifying goal: to redefine success in business. We came across this powerful movement in 2011 and, after realising that there was no equivalent movement in our region, set about becoming accredited. As part of the global B-Corporation community, we are now more excited than ever about promoting better business for a better world.
We believe in combining the power, scalability and discipline of business, with the altruism, integrity and social impact of non-profit organisations. There are many versions of social enterprise, and many ways of describing them. For Small Giants, we define a great social enterprise as having the following key elements.
- Disruptive focus: great businesses that are changing the world in meaningful ways should be loud about what they’re doing. They should be screaming their message from the rooftops, influencing the world around them, including their competitors, their customers, their suppliers, their friends and their family.
- Community driven: all social movements, successful non-profits and great businesses are founded on a common principle of community engagement. The community could be defined by a membership, a customer base, or even the general public at large. Deeply understanding and engaging with the community around your business is imperative to achieving your social or environmental impact.
- Enlightened management: social enterprise can be defined as business that is trying to change the world in meaningful ways. This defines the outcome. Enlightened management requires that the process of achieving the social or environmental outcome be held as equally important. Great management requires the empowerment of staff, providing enlightened hospitality to customers and suppliers, and engaging deeply in the community around the business.
- Commitment to the world: business should be deeply committed to both people and the planet, to both environmental and social progress. Put simply, Small Giants partners with great businesses that are changing the world in meaningful ways.
Our passion is people. We love working, playing, eating, laughing, debating, learning, listening and playing table tennis with great people. We believe the people you work with should be the type of people that you can eat and laugh with.

The White House is where we live.
Touted as the second oldest building in St Kilda, this behemoth beauty received a lot of love and affection to look this good, including a full restoration and the planting of a wonderfully productive, edible garden.
She’s now known affectionately to us as ‘The White House’ and reflects a core philosophy that beautiful environments drive beautiful people to do beautiful things.
