A few of my favourite things from Bhutan

Imagine a place where people thrive in harmony with each other and the planet. A place grounded in deep awareness, acceptance, appreciation, authentic alignment, accountability and inspiring aspirations for the benefit of all. The small country of Bhutan is humbly choosing progress over perfection in bringing this vision to life.

Earlier this year I had the absolute privilege and pleasure of travelling to Bhutan with Small Giants Academy. We were graciously hosted by the Gross National Happiness Centre team and spent ten days exploring this incredible country.

The release started as I began my descent from Tigers Nest. I’d felt deeply uncomfortable walking around the Monastery. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Was it the overwhelm of so many people, after 9 days of quiet bliss in Bhutan? Was it the altitude restricting my airways, at 3120m above sea level? Was it letting go of the limiting beliefs I'd written on a piece of paper and slipped into the monastery wall to leave behind? Was it the sadness building as I faced the end of this transformative experience? Was it a combination of everything? While the trigger was uncertain, the feeling of release was real, uncomfortable, then beautifully liberating. By the time I reached my new found friends at the halfway café, it was like I was floating on the clouds circling the mountain. They saw it, they felt it, my energy was different, my joy was contagious.

Why Bhutan?

I first read about the Bhutan Impact Safari a few years ago and felt at a deep level that it was something I needed to do. I saw the EOI for the 2025 experience late last year as my youngest daughter was wrapping up Year 12. I didn’t dive deep into the details, I paid my deposit, booked my flights, put it in the calendar and surrendered to the adventure. No regrets then and certainly none now.

While I struggled to define the reason why before leaving, I now understand that for me, the experience was about exploring how I can expand my contribution to a more harmonious and regenerative world, one where people and the planet are prioritised over profit at all cost. With that clarity now, it makes complete sense why I chose Impact Safari Bhutan, or it chose me. A country where Gross National Happiness is prioritised, and on an adventure with a group of heart-centred, curious and purpose-driven leaders.
